Bret C. Schaffer is a Managing Partner at PCG and focuses his efforts primarily on mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance (raising equity and debt), Chapter 11 representations (363 asset sales), and real estate related transactions. Prior to joining PCG, Mr. Schaffer was with BCC Capital as a Managing Director in charge of the firm’s mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance, valuation, and employee stock ownership plan practices. This was Mr. Schaffer’s second stint at BCC Capital Partners as he previously held similar roles with BCC Capital from 1993 through 2002.
Before joining BCC Capital for the second time, Mr. Schaffer was a Senior Vice President and the Chief Contracting Officer for Mavent Inc., a venture capital-backed software technology company. In helping to launch Mavent, Mr. Schaffer co-wrote the business plan, originated the company’s first and second major customers, and was primarily responsible for finding and negotiating what ultimately became a $25 million venture capital commitment. During his 6 plus years at Mavent, Mr. Schaffer led or co-led successful contract negotiations with Wells Fargo, Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan Chase, CitiGroup, Credit Suisse First Boston, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, AmTrust Bank, Countrywide, National City Corporation, Lending Tree, AT&T, ADP, Fidelity Investments, and Pitney Bowes. In addition, Mr. Schaffer oversaw intellectual property management (secured the company’s key patent), risk management, and human resources. He also served as corporate secretary.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Schaffer was a Director of Acquisitions for CWS Capital Partners (formerly Clayton, Williams, & Sherwood, Inc.), a large real estate investment management firm. While at CWS Capital Partners, Mr. Schaffer negotiated real estate acquisitions on behalf of a $100 million equity fund sponsored by PMRealty Advisors (a division of Pacific Life Insurance Company), and separately for the firm’s limited partner investors. Mr. Schaffer also played a key role in the completion of a $90 million commercial mortgage-backed securities transaction between Daiwa Securities America and the Resolution Trust Company. Mr. Schaffer holds B.A. in economics from U.C.L.A and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a member of the CFA Institute, and holds his series 7, 63, and 79 securities licenses.
Kari M. Laitinen has 20-years experience working with private equity, asset management, hedge funds, and investment banking – with a track record of originating complex financial transactions. Skilled at launching and capitalizing companies, he has created structured product(s) with international investment banks, acquired and sold businesses (buy/ sell-side M&A), reorganized/ recapitalization, performed business valuation(s), and raised over one-hundred million dollars for start-up funds/ organizations. Mr. Laitinen is known for his creativity in successfully finding, selling, and creating new sources of revenue – often through grant writing – for companies.
As a dynamic lecturer he has taught thousands of business professionals seeking financial security licensing (e.g. Series 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 24, 26, 27/28, 51, 52, 53, 55, 63, 65, 66, 72), and currently teaches business courses (e.g., Financial Management of the Firm, Business Law, Business Plans, Global Strategy) as an adjunct professor within a local MBA program. Accordingly he is skilled at building dynamic financial models which investors, company executives, and business owners rely on in making intelligent, informed financial and strategic decisions.
Mr. Laitinen earned his Executive Juris Doctorate degree from Concord Law School, holds an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from Pepperdine University - Graziadio School of Business, and a BA in History with a Minor degree in Business Marketing from Brigham Young University.
John is a Managing Director of Prosilio Capital Group. He has years of experience in corporate finance transactions, which include debt and equity placements, mergers, acquisitions, buyouts, and restructurings. He spent 10-years with IBM in a variety of sales, marketing, and operating management positions and has served on the boards of several private and public companies. He was also a Member of the Orange County Venture Group.
John is a graduate of the IBM Senior Management School and IBM Graduate Business School. He was previously with a private equity group with assets in excess of $15billion and currently holds FINRA licenses SEI, Series 63 and 82.
